starting our special three month retirement trip round France and Spain.
Well it was not to be ... sadly, real life got in the way with a long sorry tale of hospitals and an aged parent and impending surgery. So trying really hard to put a brave face on things, we managed to get a few days away in Yorkshire before the op. Not quite the south of France, but perfectly pleasant.
We stayed in Knaresborough, which was so lovely we wondered why we had never been before.
The woodland walks around Nidderdale were wonderful...
We especially enjoyed a sculpture trail one evening.
After hosting some stages of the Tour de France in July, Yorkshire is still yellow with bikes and bunting everywhere.
The remnants of an amazing party. Wish we'd been able to join in at the time.
One of the highlights of our little trip was a visit to Brimham Rocks. A weird and wonderful ancient landscape which is great place to explore. When we were there it was still the summer holidays, and the rocks were filled with children scrambling all over them. What a great place to let off steam.
Inca loved it too and scampered through the rocks checking out new sniffs ...
but as always, she reverted to what she loves best and found the only water for miles around for a spot of dog snorkelling.
SPLASH!
Oh dear - sorry your summer hasn't gone to plan... :( But I did just do a double take when I saw your photos! I was in Knaresborough visiting a friend last weekend and have some very similar pictures! I'm guessing you visited the little cafe by the river too!? Hope things pick up and you manage to do your travelling at some point x
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you had a new blog, I shall be following along now. I'm sorry to hear that things haven't gone to plan this summer but looking on the bright side, you wouldn't have crossed the Pennines and seen what our fabulous county has to offer if it had. I do hope things start to run smoothly for you and that everything goes well for your family. By the way, Archie would have sniffed out that very same puddle which Inca did, he's a devil when it comes to water.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your plans being spoiled. We have had a similar summer. We should have been in the Loire Valley in June,Royan in August,Spain mid September and all had to be cancelled.C had prostate problems starting in June and resulting in surgery three weeks ago.He is now almost fully recovered and back to normal and nothing nasty was found. We salvaged a week in Dieppe. It has put us off booking anything until the last minute.Hope your problems were not your or your OH's.
ReplyDeleteKathy. Its me again.I can't find any link on your new blog to "follow".Am I missing something?
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that your plans were 'modified' unexpectedly. I hope that things have settled since then and you are 'living the retirement dream'! I've just started a new blog as my life in education has taken an unexpected detour. All the best, Jx
